Mid America Pet Food, headquartered in Mount Pleasant, Texas, has recalled a specific lot of its Victor Super Premium Classic Hi-Pro Plus Dog Food due to potential salmonella contamination.

The affected product was distributed in 5-pound bags. Consumers can identify the recalled product by checking the back of the bag for both Lot Code 1000016385 and a Best By date of 4/30/2024. No other products are included in this recall.

Salmonella poses health risks to both animals and humans. In humans, symptoms of salmonella infection include nausea, abdominal pain and fever. Pets, on the other hand, may show signs of lethargy, decreased appetite and gastrointestinal disturbances.

The decision to recall was made after a sample from this lot tested positive for salmonella during a routine inspection by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. Consumers who have purchased this product are advised not to use it and to reach out to Mid America Pet Food for further instructions. Retailers are also being advised to remove the affected product from their inventory.
