Why was it recalled?
The Revival Animal Health recall covers puppy milk replacers with variable vitamin D, meaning some lots are low and others elevated. Too much vitamin D can calcify soft tissue such as the kidneys; too little over several weeks can cause rickets, with weak or deformed bones and lameness. Two complaints of rickets had been reported. Revival is reviewing its manufacturer relationship.

What Revival is recalling
On June 25, 2026, Revival Animal Health of Orange City, Iowa announced a Revival Animal Health recall of Breeder's Edge Foster Care Canine and Shelter's Choice Canine Milk Replacers, and expanded it to Breeder's Edge Foster Care GM goat milk products, because of variable vitamin D levels. Some lots tested low and others elevated.
The products are sold nationwide online and in retail pet stores, packaged in resealable stand-up bags of several sizes and in 12 oz jars. This expands the recall Revival first announced in April 2026.
Why vitamin D levels matter for puppies
Dogs that take in too much vitamin D may vomit, have diarrhea, lose their appetite, grow weak or lethargic, and lose weight or grow poorly. Very high levels can calcify soft tissues such as the kidneys. Puppies that get too little vitamin D over several weeks can develop rickets: lethargy, weakness, bone deformities, painful swollen joints and lameness from weakened or malformed bones. Two complaints of rickets had been reported at the time of the announcement.
What Revival says happened
The recall was expanded to the goat milk products after testing confirmed elevated vitamin D. Revival says it is reviewing its relationship with the manufacturer and will not distribute milk replacer products until it is confident in their safety. The recall was made with the knowledge of the FDA.
