What was alerted: Darwin’s Natural Selections Antibiotic & Grain-Free Chicken Recipe for Cats and Darwin’s Natural Selections Antibiotic & Grain-Free Turkey Recipe for Cats were found to contain Salmonella during an official FDA inspection conducted at the Arrow Reliance manufacturing facility from August 23, 2022, through September 30, 2022. Consequently, on February 16, 2023, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to Arrow Reliance Inc. of Tukwila, Washington, which was posted publicly on March 07, 2023. The Dog Food Advisor became aware of the warning on March 24, 2022.
Peroxyacetic acid (PAA), used by Arrow Reliance in its pet food formulas, was another concern addressed in the warning. The FDA considers PAA an “unapproved/unsafe animal food additive,” but Arrow Reliance claims it is used as a pathogen mitigation method to reduce the risk of E. coli and Salmonella in its raw pet food formulations.
