What was recalled: All dog and cat versions of the Pure Being Advent Calendars sold at Aldi stores in 5.15-ounce boxes during the 2021 holiday season with UPC codes 4099100267754 or 4099100267747
Aldi is issuing this recall after receiving a “small number of customer complaints” about the pet treats that come in the advent calendars.
The grocery store chain, with more than 2,100 stores across the country, is selling more than 2 dozen types of advent calendars this year. These popular limited-edition calendars often sell out.
It is important to note that the dog and cat Pure Being Advent Calendars are the only ones that are part of this recall.
The Pure Being Advent Calendars featured 25 different treats marketed as natural, limited-ingredient and grain-free, and the price was $5.89. Some consumers who bought the calendars described the treats as being as hard as “cement blocks.”

This U.S.-based recall follows a recent product advisory for Canadian consumers: Costco in Canada said its Irish Rover 2021 Advent Calendar for Dogs (item 2462182) did not meet its quality standards and that consumers should return it for a full refund.
