Wild Coast Raw is voluntarily recalling multiple lots of its Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula raw pet food due to potential contamination with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI H5N1, or bird flu). This follows a public health alert issued on February 14, 2025, when the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) confirmed the presence of bird flu in certain batches of the product.
At the time, no recall was issued—only a warning to pet owners. Now, after further testing by the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA), Wild Coast Raw has officially recalled six lot numbers of the affected product.

Why is Wild Coast raw pet food being recalled?
The recall was issued after laboratory testing confirmed that multiple lots of this product were contaminated with the same strain of bird flu (H5N1) linked to severe illness and death in cats. The initial health alert was triggered when two cats from different households became severely ill and had to be euthanized after consuming the food.
Testing conducted by both the WSDA and the ODA confirmed the presence of the virus in both the pet food and the affected cats.
