The recall was due to the presence of Salmonella bacteria, which can cause symptoms in cats such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever, excess salivation, and decreased appetite. Humans handling contaminated products can experience similar symptoms, so it's important to wash hands thoroughly after handling cat food. Some cats may not show symptoms but can still spread the bacteria to other pets and humans.

The affected product was distributed only in Texas and sold in HEB retail stores. No other HEB products were affected by this recall.
