This recall involves 4 different recipes of Simply Nourish Fresh Market Adult Gently Cooked frozen dog food. About 51,000 packages of the food, in 2 different sizes, are affected.

No other Simply Nourish dog or cat food products are part of this recall.

The recall was initiated after tests showed higher levels of Vitamin D in the product than is allowed. According to the company, Wet Noses Natural Dog Treat Company of Monroe, Washington, the fault lies with the vitamin mix manufacturer — who allegedly failed to “detect or properly communicate” that there was an issue.

No pet illnesses have been reported to date, but consuming too much Vitamin D can cause health complications including vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling and weight loss.

“Consumers who have dogs that have consumed any of the [affected] products … and are exhibiting these symptoms should contact their veterinarian,” the recall announcement states.

The affected Simply Nourish frozen dog food was sold at various PetSmart stores across the United States. A quick search shows these specific products were recently removed from PetSmart’s website.
