Why was it recalled?

The Pedigree recall covers two lots that failed Mars' quality checks and were sent to a third-party vendor for destruction. Mars later found the product appears to have been fraudulently diverted and sold in the United States. The cans may contain hard, sharp metal and plastic pieces. No pet illness or injury had been reported.

What Pedigree is recalling

Mars Petcare US of Franklin, Tennessee announced the Pedigree recall on July 2, 2026. It applies only to two lots of Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor wet dog food in 13.2 oz cans. No other Pedigree or Mars Petcare product is involved.

How cans marked for destruction reached store shelves

According to the company, the two lots failed Mars and Pedigree safety and quality standards during routine quality control and were sent to a third-party vendor to be destroyed. Mars later discovered that the product appears to have been fraudulently diverted and sold in the United States. The company says it is working with authorities to find out how the cans entered the marketplace.

Risk from metal and plastic

The recalled cans may contain pieces of hard, sharp metal and plastic. Swallowing sharp foreign objects can cause choking, cuts to the mouth or digestive tract, or a blockage. Mars had received no reports of pet illness or injury at the time of the announcement. If you fed a recalled can to your dog and are concerned, contact your veterinarian.
