Why was it recalled?
Aflatoxins are toxins produced by the mold Aspergillus flavus, which can grow on corn and other grains used in pet food ingredients. If consumed in high amounts, aflatoxins can cause illness and death in pets. Symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning include vomiting, jaundice, diarrhea, sluggishness, and decreased appetite. In severe cases, it can be fatal. Some pets may suffer liver damage without showing any symptoms.
While it is unlikely that pet owners handling products containing aflatoxin are at risk of poisoning, it is always recommended to wash hands thoroughly after handling pet food.
