Whiskas Company Overview
The Whiskas brand of wet and dry cat food is manufactured by Mars. The products are sold worldwide in many countries, and each market has a different website. Whiskas was originally called Kal Kan when it was created in 1936, and the name was changed to Whiskas in 1988 for marketing purposes (Kal Kan is now solely a dog food).

We did turn up an interesting story from 1971, when Kal Kan (Whiska’s original name) had sperm whale meat seized by FDA officials because it contained excessive levels of mercury. Yes, whale meat. Pet lovers rejoiced that the company wouldn’t be able to quietly mix the whale meat into pet food.
