Grreat Choice Company Overview

Sophistacat brand cat food was marketed by PetSmart until February 2013, when the brand name was folded into PetSmart’s existing budget-minded Grreat Choice line, which includes inexpensive dog food.

PetSmart, a well-known pet retailer across the United States, owns and operates more than 1,000 stores, many with grooming and even boarding options. It is not uncommon to see customers bring their pets into the shop with them.

Other PetSmart brands of pet food include Simply Nourish and Authority.

Has There Ever Been a Grreat Choice Recall?

There have been multiple Grreat Choice recalls initiated by PetSmart, according to our research.

In early 2017, a Grreat Choice recall was issued due to potential metal contamination in their canned dog food, though there were no reports of affected dogs. Another significant Grreat Choice recall occurred in 2009 when PetSmart recalled several dog biscuit products linked to a salmonella concern from a supplier. Additionally, in 2007, the Grreat Choice brand was involved in a large-scale recall related to Menu Foods and melamine contamination, affecting various pet food brands.

January 2009
Cause: Potential for salmonella contamination. Announcement: FDA report dated Jan. 20, 2009; PetSmart update dated April 1, 2009. What was recalled: The following types of Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits sold between Aug. 21, 2008 and Jan. 19, 2009:
