Earthborn Holistic is owned by Midwestern Pet Foods, a fourth-generation family-owned company that was founded in 1926. The company produces the Earthborn Holistic brand in its facility in Illinois. The canned food is manufactured in human-grade facilities. Earthborn’s pet food and treats feature high-quality ingredients created with the environment in mind.

The company has a “UPCs for Trees” program in which customers can mail in the bar codes from their products to the company. The company then has trees planted in areas around the world affected by deforestation. 

Has Earthborn Holistic Ever Been Recalled?

Yes, the Earthborn Holistic brand experienced its first recall in March 2021. The recall of select Earthborn Holistic products (along with a few other brands) was initiated after routine sampling by the manufacturer, Midwestern Pet Foods, discovered that some of the dog and cat food may be contaminated with salmonella. Also, we should mention that in late June 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) identified Earthborn Holistic as one of 16 pet food brands that may be linked to heart disease in dogs and cats. None of the brands have been recalled as part of the agency’s ongoing investigation, though. Most, but not all, of the pet foods are “grain-free” and/or dry (kibble) dog food formulations. The FDA says this is a “complex scientific issue that may involve multiple factors,” and that it cannot even be certain that diet is a cause of the heart problems.
