Blue Seal Company Overview

Blue Seal, originally known as Blue Seal Feeds, was founded in 1868 by Henry K. Webster in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The company, which claims to have a long-standing reputation in animal nutrition, joined Kent Feeds, Inc. in 2010 to form the Kent Nutrition Group.

Blue Seal produces dog and cat food, along with feed for various livestock, including horses, deer, birds, poultry, and specialty animals. The company touts its history, stating that its founder, Henry Kingman Webster, at the age of 23, began manufacturing his own brand of quality feeds during the “horse and buggy” era. This move is described as the start of four generations of leadership in the H.K. Webster Company and the eventual creation of Blue Seal, which is positioned as a trusted animal nutrition brand in the Northeast.

In 1910, the H.K. Webster Company adopted the name “Blue Seal” to identify its high-quality feeds for poultry and livestock. The company claims to be a pioneer in the implementation of batch mixers for the mechanical blending of products in the Northeast, aiming to provide scientifically formulated feeds. In the 1920s, Blue Seal reportedly installed molasses mixing equipment, described as the first of its kind in New England.

Regionally, Kent Nutrition Group was formed to enhance the regional presence of both Kent and Blue Seal. Kent, founded in 1927, is described as a leading animal nutrition brand in the Midwest, while Blue Seal, with its beginnings in 1868, is presented as a prominent brand in the East. Together, these brands are positioned as the most trusted and preeminent regionally focused animal nutrition brands in the United States.
