Recalled: Blue Buffalo Canned Dog Food

This is the second canned dog food recalled for potentially high levels of beef thyroid hormone.

Rocky Mountain Red Meat Dinner. By: Blue Buffalo.

Maker: Blue Buffalo Company, Ltd.
Cause: Potential for elevated levels of naturally occurring beef thyroid hormone
Announcement: NASDAQ Global News Wire report dated March 17, 2017
What was recalled: Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs, 12.5 oz can, UPC code #840243101153 with a Best Buy date of June 7, 2019.

No dogs have been reported ill at the time of this voluntary recall. A Wellness canned dog food product was also recalled for the same cause on March 18, 2017, indicating that the two brands may use the same manufacturer for canned dog foods.

According to the Global News Wire report, “Dogs ingesting high levels of beef thyroid hormones may exhibit symptoms such as increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness. These symptoms may resolve when the use of the impacted food is discontinued. However, with prolonged consumption these symptoms may increase in severity and may include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid or difficulty breathing. Should these symptoms occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.”
