Please help- moving my adult male cat in with other adult cats!! (2 replies)
Last November, my boyfriend and I adopted the most handsome orange 4-year-old kitty named Tom. He is so full of snuggles, sass, and love. He is basically always right next to one of us or often snuggled up right on my chest next to my face. He definitely loves my boyfriend and is very happy being with us both. He's a great boy.
When we adopted him, we were living with roommates who had a dog that Tom tolerated but didn't love (to be fair, this dog sucked). Three months ago we moved into our own apartment that Tom has made his domain.
Unfortunately, my partner and I have had a very sudden breakup, and I am now moving out of the apartment into my parents' home. We agreed that I will take Tom with me as he and I have a very close bond.
I am so very worried about this being too much for Tom. My parents have several adult cats and have a lot of experience introducing new pets, but Tom is a male who loves his territory and his people. I am so worried about him losing an owner he loves and moving into a new home with kids and other pets. How do I reduce this stress for him?
Please help as I want to make this as peaceful as possible for him.
Hi Maddie! I'm sorry about your breakup - never an easy situation in and of itself. In regards to Tom, I was poking around and I found this:
It looks like it has some great pointers, like slow introduction and use of a carrier to help during the adjustment period. Hang in there!
