What began as an ordinary fishing trip for Jason Frost and Brandon Key turned out to be an experience they will not soon forget.
While fishing on the Warrior River in Alabama, the guys heard a splash behind them. No big deal, they thought — just fish jumping about in the water. Wrong!
When Frost turned around to check things out, he spotted something swimming toward them. Then he heard a faint “meow.” A tiny kitten was paddling through the water, clearly hoping to be rescued.
Frost waited in wonder for the kitten to get close enough to be pulled to safety. Mission accomplished, the ginger kitten meowed a “thank you” and shook dry.
Key, who was already in awe over what had just happened, caught sight of another kitten swimming their way. They got this one into the boat, too.
“This is by far the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. [We didn’t even know] cats could swim,” Frost said.

“There were no houses for miles,” Frost told reporters. “Somebody probably dropped them off there in the middle of the night. They were so desperate, they swam all the way out to us and almost jumped in the boat.”
You’ll be happy to know that once on dry land, the kittens almost immediately were adopted.
