Your Cute Widdle Puppy Wuvs Baby Talk. Adult Dogs? Not So Much.

Researchers actually tested this.

You’re wasting your time if you’re using baby talk on your older dog. By: beckleybisset

We all shower our pets with attention, both in actions and words. No matter their age, we love babying them from time to time.

Although puppies thrive on high-pitched baby talk, you’re wasting your time if you’re saying “goochy-goo” to adult dogs — and science proves it.

A recent study, published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, revealed that adult dogs in the experiment did not react to baby talk any differently from the way they reacted to normal-sounding human speech. Puppies, meanwhile, “were highly reactive to dog-directed speech,” the authors of the study wrote.

All dogs, young and old, crave attention — and they’re just so cute and adorable that I doubt many of us are going to stop using that high pitch any time soon. Will you?
