Calling Harvey Dent: This Dog Is Literally Half Husky, Half Lab

A genetic quirk gave him different breeds on each side of his face. Creepy or brilliant?

Meet Braveheart. Can you see his 2 halves? Note the upright Husky ear on one side, and the floppy Lab ear on the other.

Ever have a hard time deciding between your 2 favorite breeds of dog?

Well, if you find a dog like Braveheart, your debate is over.

Braveheart has an extremely rare genetic quirk called chimerism. His DNA comes from 2 separate breeds: a Husky and a Labrador Retriever. I don’t just mean his parents were different breeds, but that Braveheart actually has 2 different sets of DNA.

In Braveheart’s case, it’s easy to see the 2 breeds of dog — he almost has a defining line running down the middle of his face separating which side is which.

  • He has 1 bright blue eye and 1 deep brown eye.
  • And he has 1 perky, upright Husky ear and 1 floppy Labrador one.

This photo shows what happens when you make a mirror image of each side:

I can’t decide if this is creepy or brilliant — but if Harvey Dent is ever in need of a dog, what could be a more perfect match than this one?
