Katie Spychalla Bunes says she got quite a surprise last week as she traveled along a road in Isanti County, Minnesota.
A dog was running down the road, trying to keep up with a pickup that was moving about 30 miles per hour. A man’s arm was hanging out the truck window, holding onto one end of a leash. The other end was attached to the tired-looking dog.
“It just wasn’t right,” says Bunes. She took a couple of photos, then stopped the truck and confronted the man — who proceeded to tell Bunes to mind her own business. “I lost it right there,” she says.
Bunes posted the pictures to Facebook, and hundreds of people wrote in with angry comments, calling this animal abuse. Bunes then went to the Sheriff’s Department to file a report. According to a spokesman there, any charges will depend on how fast the truck was traveling and whether the dog was injured.
“If they want to prosecute him, fine,” says Bunes, but she says she’s more concerned about making sure the dog is safe.
According to KARE 11 News, officials found the dog — who “was not injured and appeared in great spirits.”
