After paramedics arrived, Masha the cat wanted to hop into the ambulance with the baby boy.

Masha, a stray cat who lives in the hallway of an apartment complex in Obninsk, Russia, is being credited with saving the life of a 12-week-old infant who had been abandoned.

Irina Lavrosa, a resident of the complex, was stunned when she heard Masha, who is normally calm, meowing nonstop.

Fearing the cat was injured, she followed the meows and found Masha snuggling with an infant. It was later determined she had been cuddling with the baby boy to keep him warm in the below-freezing temperatures.

“She [kept] the baby warm for several hours and [was] meowing to call for help,” the woman told reporters.

When paramedics arrived, Masha’s maternal instincts resurfaced — she tried to get into the ambulance with the baby.

The child was found to be in perfect health, and Masha is relishing all the well-deserved attention she is receiving.
