Puppy sinking sharp baby teeth into me. (6 replies)
I understand that puppies have teething pain just like babies, I have been told to ignore him completely spot petting or playing with him and walk away every time he does it to me. Which is fine if its my hand or a part of me that is easy to remove from his mouth. When i'm just standing, he will sink his teeth into my ankles, not easy to walk away then or sometimes when i bend down to pet him he will attach himself to my jacket sleeve and will not let go. Please help???
Ah, you have a mouther, lol. I found a great thread on the Animal Humane Society's site:
It's great that you are addressing this behavior - so many pet parents don't because when a puppy does it, it's "so cute!" It's not so cute when that puppy gets bigger and starts doing damage but by then it's a much harder behavior to remove.
Melissa, thanks so much for your help, i will have a look on the site now. Your right, its not so cute, i could not let it go on and on. I would have no comfort worrying if he was going to do it to a child. He loves when children give him a pet and i am constantly saying 'please be careful, his teeth are very sharp and he's a puppy etc.' but i couldnt just let it go on. thanks again.
Good on you for taking the time to figure out how to help him change his behavior! You're an A++ pet parent 🙂
Is he the one in your profile picture?!! CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!
