Hi guys, have you ever tried to create some home made treats for your pet? I am actually planning to create some, but I am a little bit worry that my babies won't like it. My animals love Gourmet Gobbler Crunch which I bought from pet street mall, I just want to try something new.

I saw this recipe online, I hope my dogs will like it:

BTW, I will highly appreciate it if some of you will provide me a recipe of a good dog treat. Thanks in advance.

Hey animalwarrior. Great topic! It just so happens that we are getting ready to run a regular (maybe twice a month) feature here on Petful where we give a dog treat recipe. We test them out and show pictures of the result. It'll probably be at least another week before they start going live, but the photo I've attached here is a beautiful sneak peek. One thing with pet treats (and any pet food, for that matter): You have to be careful with the ingredients.

We'd love to hear any other tips on preparing dog treats, everyone! What have you tried making for your pup?

Yes, I second that...great topic! I often made homemade dog biscuits/treats for my dog. But, yes you need to be cautious with the ingredients you use. I've made Peanut Butter, Cheese, and just can't remember the other ones. I enjoyed making treats to give to family, friends and fellow dog rescue volunteers for Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts. Everybody, both human and tail waggin' pups loved the goodies. It's always a good rule of thumb to either ask beforehand if the recipient has any food allergies or just include the recipe along with the treats and the dog parent can go from there--if their dog can't eat the treats then they can regift them. I'll have to look at my cookbooks where I have some a small collection of dog treat recipes written down and collected from fellow dog parents over the years. I'll get back to you 🙂

Hi animalwarrior,

There are a lot of things that you can bake or cook for your dogs. Isn't it fulfilling to see them jump from excitement after smelling your newly made treat? 🙂

You can try making baked potatoes for your buddies. That will surely get them mouth-watering. Peanut butter is also a good idea. You can include it to cookies to make them tastier. 🙂

If you don't like any hassle, you can avail some ready to eat treats just like what I bought in petstreetmall. The crunchies really make my dogs crave for it. They've got me spending bucks but that's totally fine as long as I see them eat heartily. 🙂
