Today is the 4th-annual Remember Me Thursday international event to raise awareness for homeless pets. The event was created by Mike Arms, president and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center.
In previous years, more than 164 countries participated in the campaign, as well as 500-plus animal welfare organizations and hundreds of thousands of individuals. The purpose of the day is to advocate for animal adoption and reduce euthanasia. People around the world will share messages of animal welfare and light a candle for those pets still waiting for homes.
The official spokeswoman for this year’s event is Pauley Perrette, better known as Abby from NCIS. A long list of celebrity luminaries will follow, including Beth Stern, Jackson Galaxy and Diane Keaton.
You can get involved by sharing a picture of your rescue animal with the hashtag #RememberTheRescue and share adoption messages using the hashtag #RememberMeThursday. You can also upload your pet’s picture in a contest to win prizes for your favorite animal shelter or rescue, one of which includes a $2,000 donation and 1,000 pounds of dog food.
Light a candle, share your rescue pet’s pictures, and #RememberMeThursday!
