Precious the pit bull was found nearly dead on the streets of Los Angeles.
Battered, bleeding profusely, with both ears torn off and with multiple lacerations, she had been used as a bait dog — a dog who is less aggressive than dog fighters prefer and so is used as “bait” to train fighting dogs. Bait dogs are used, destroyed (often by being torn to pieces) and then discarded like garbage.
Dog fighting is an ugly business, and pit bulls take a bad rap for being the poster children for it. But Precious bucks all those stereotypes.
Years after rescuing Precious, Addie Daddio of Love That Dog Hollywood still tears up when talking about it.
“When they handed her to me, she was completely just dead weight. There was nothing we thought we could do for her. We barely thought that she was going to make it through the day,” says Daddio, adding that the dog’s own sweet nature eventually helped her recover.
Precious’s story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Take a look at the video below, and see if you don’t want to immediately champion the cause to save bait dogs and stop dog fighting everywhere. Share her story. Be a part of the solution.
And pass the tissues — you’ll need them.
UPDATE: Precious has been adopted and is being showered with love.
